Sunday’s CicLAvia was a huge success! Event coordinators estimated a turnout of more than 100,000 for this year’s third CicLAvia, which spanned 7 1/2 miles of car-free streets. There were no major accidents or injuries reported, although patrons were reminded to stay hydrated due to temperatures in the low 90s and low humidity. CicLAvia events for 2014 are currently in the works.
Los Angeles residents seem to think it is very possible for the city to be a cyclist town. Letters in response to the editorial in the Los Angeles Times titled “ Can LA be a cyclist’s town?” concur that achieving this requires a combination of making the effort to ride a bike when possible, investment and maintenance of infrastructure, and defensive cycling.
